Attending public events is only possible for vaccinated and recovering individuals, who are screened on a daily basis – this is what Health Minister Jens Spaan is demanding. RKI boss Lothar Wheeler insists: “It’s five past twelve.”

D.He called on Health Minister Jens Spann (CDU) at a federal press conference on Friday for further action to combat the corona situation. “If nothing happens, the events double every two weeks. We have a high number of infections, while the vaccination rate is still low,” Span said.

So, on Friday, he signed an order to return free corona tests nationwide, which will apply from Saturday. He expects the range of trials to be extended again from Monday.

“However – I say this from the experience of three corona waves – it’s right and important, but nothing is enough, at least not anymore”. Maintenance facilities also have the duty to test 3G in employees and visitors and in the workplace.

In the future, “2G Plus” will be used for public events, which means access is only possible for those who have been vaccinated and who have had to show a current, negative corona test. “This is a step we must take, otherwise it will be a bitter December for everyone,” Span stressed.

“It’s five to twelve,” Wyler insists

There are “already out of bounds” clinics in Saxony, Thuringia and Bavaria. There is a risk that skills will not be released immediately in the event of a heart attack or stroke.

Lothar Wheeler, president of the Robert Koch Institute, underscored the seriousness of the situation: “It’s twelve to five o’clock,” he said hastily, holding up a deep red map of corona events in Germany.

Across the country, 2800 corona patients will be in intensive care units, with fewer intensive care beds currently operating in the country than ever before for epidemics, coupled with severe staff shortages. Spaan said training to become an intensive caregiver would take five years, so progress could not be expected anytime soon.

Weiler later explained what daily corona numbers mean: Currently there are 50,000 new corona cases per day (including the increased rate of unvaccinated children and adolescents), with an average of 3,000 people being hospitalized, of whom at least 200 die in the intensive care unit.

To alleviate the situation, Weiler not only demanded a standard vaccine, but also “everyone should change their behavior”. He called for: “Minimize your contacts, especially at home”. He already knew he would not attend the New Year celebration.
