Official sources confirmed that the 26-year-old Brazilian singer, Marilia Mendonca, died on Friday afternoon, after the plane she was following crashed near a waterfall in the interior of Minas Gerais.
Death was confirmed at first by firefighters, and later, by the singer’s advisors, who stated in a first statement that the young woman had been rescued alive from the small plane.
The Minas Gerais Military Fire Department (CBMMG) reported that a small Beech Aircraft, crashed Friday in the rural area of Piedade de Caratinga. Firefighters confirmed in a statement sent to the press that the plane was carrying singer Marilia Mendonca and that she was among the fatal victims.
According to the Civil Police of Minas Gerais, “five bodies on board” have been identified and “three deaths have been confirmed, including the singer’s”. The singer and songwriter’s staff report five deaths.
“With great regret, we confirm the death of singer Marilia Mendonca, producer Henrique Ribeiro, her uncle and advisor Abesele Silveira Dias Filho, pilot and co-pilot. The plane took off from Goiania to Caratinga / Minas Gerais, where Marilia will perform tonight. At the moment, this is the information that We have,” the singer’s advisor reported in a note.
Marilia Mendonca was going to a show in Minas Gerais, and minutes before the accident, she shared a video of her getting into the six-passenger plane. There is no information yet about the cause of the accident, but several investigators have been sent to the scene.
The young artist, 26, is one of the most successful names in country style in Brazil and has already performed in Portugal in 2019, at the Altice Arena.
