FC Porto received and beat Leverkusen, with two balls to zero, in the third round of the second group of the Champions League. It was Sérgio Conceição’s first victory in this edition of the competition – with goals from two men coming off the bench – that re-launched their race to reach the Round of 16.
If the dragons start the game better, the visiting right wing, made up of the inexhaustible Frimpong and Diaby, try to restore balance. In a frosty tone, the first moment of danger came with a strike from the middle of Rua de Uribe (40), to which Hradiki responded with a superb shock from a corner kick.
Chic turned out to be the most threatening on the other side, but he wasn’t happy either. First, after the referee converted Taremi’s goal into a penalty kick in favor of the Germans, he could not beat the opponent of Diogo Costa from the 11-meter mark (45). Later (45 + 2′), he again saw the Porto goalkeeper shine with a shot from outside the area.
In the second half, the Blues and the Whites came back more dangerous. Taremi sent the skin a little above the post (49 minutes) and upset Ustakio Hradiki with the ball from outside the area (59).
But the Dragon exploded with glee later (69 minutes), in a great team play with five players, which culminated in a well-chosen header by Zaidu after a cross to the far post by Taremi. Confirmation of victory approached the final whistle (87 minutes), as Taremi helped again on the goal, this time, through Galino.
