Sporting Lisbon won the basketball derby with Benfica on Saturday at the Pavilhão João Rocha Stadium. The game ended 91-88 in favor of the Lions, and in addition to overtime, the game was marked by the Reds’ triple being canceled out with the sound of the horn.
The country’s champions entered the break leading (37-36), but the hosts gave everything they had in the third period and achieved a 12-point difference. In the final quarter, the Reds took the lead again and tied the game (80-80), forcing them to go to overtime.
But the emotions did not stop there. Sporting took a 91-88 lead when Aaron Broussard knocked Ron Curry out of the way and scored a 3-pointer. This move had to be reviewed by the judging team and was cancelled, as they understood that the launch took place after the horn had sounded.
Marcus Lovett Jr. led with 28 points. For Benfica, Broussard led with 24 points and Tony Douglas scored 21.
In this way, Sporting, who lost in the last round to Oliverense, returned to its victories and rose to the isolated lead with 15 points in eight matches.
Benfica ranks second with 13 points, while Porto – which beat Galomar on Saturday (81-68) – remains in third place with 12 points, but has played two fewer matches.
