a Barcelona City Council has announced a plan to phase out tourist apartments over the next five years. The aim is to get rid of all 10,000 apartments of this type currently in existence in the city by 2028.
The announcement was made by Jaume Colboni, President of Barcelona City Council, at a press conference held on Friday, with the Vice-Presidents, Laia Bonet and Jordi Valls, where he explained his government's desire to ensure that the city has as many apartments as possible for housing purposes.
The Socialist Mayor explained that the aim of this measure is to solve the housing problem because “rental prices are rising sharply and becoming increasingly more expensive.”
Its goal is that “from 2029, the concept of the tourist apartment disappears” as currently conceived and the activity of tourist use in residential apartments ceases completely.
