Brazilian football is again in mourning, this time due to the death of former player Roberto Dinamite, the great idol of Vasco da Gama, at the age of 68.
Carlos Roberto de Oliveira, better known as Dynamite, died on Sunday, in Rio de Janeiro, after being hospitalized on Saturday due to poor health – he had been suffering from an intestinal tumor since the end of 2021.

The striker spent most of his career at Vasco – he arrived in formative years, in 1969 and made his debut in November 1971, aged 17 -, after a few months of experience at Barcelona, in 1979. He scored 708 goals in 1,110 matches for Vasco.
Roberto Dynamite scored 26 goals for the Brazilian national team and was the top scorer in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina with 3 goals.
After 12 years as a player, he ended his career in 1992 and in 2008 he was elected club president, re-elected in 2011.
In 2021, in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vasco da Gama’s first goal, the club launched a campaign to make a statue of him, which was inaugurated in April 2022.
