After a victory over Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis (6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3), Rafael Nadal, who advanced to the third round of Wimbledon, left an unexpected revolution. The 36-year-old Spanish tennis player told reporters that he is on the verge of ending his career.

“Two weeks ago I was about to retire, and now I don’t feel that way anymore. I am not afraid of the day I have to give up my career, because I live a very happy life outside of tennis. It is true that this sport has been an important part of me for the past 30 years, but I also have good things outside of it. When that happens, it will be a change that I have to get used to, but at the moment it is normal to talk about retiring athletes who have been at the top level for many years”, he explained.

Finally, he also spoke about the care he took against Covid-19, a situation that has already led to the withdrawal of three tennis players from the tournament.

“It’s not paranoia, it’s a fact. My dear friend, Roberto Bautista, had to leave. I just stay home and go out to the tournament, which I’ve been doing for the past two years. I’m not saying that’s the right thing, because we’re going to have to go back to their nature, but when these things happen…”
