Los Angeles FC won the MLS Championship for the first time, succeeding 2021 champion New York City to the throne of American football.

Playing their home ground at Bank of California, Los Angeles FC defeated the Philadelphia Union on penalties 3-3 at the end of overtime, in a truly exciting final.

And in the 27th minute, Kelly Acosta gave the hosts the lead, as Philadelphia Union equalized in the second half, in the 59th minute, through Hungarian Daniel Gazdag. In the final 10 minutes, Jesús Murillo (83) appeared to give L.A. a hand on the trophy, but the outsiders forced extra time through Jack Elliott (85).

In overtime, goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau was sent off, leaving the California team with 10 and opening the way to 2-3, composed by Elliot, at 120 + 4.
