Ball – Joao Matias wins the sprint race in Viseu (cycling)

João Matias (TavFer-Mortágua-Ovos Matinados) was the winner of the fourth stage of Volta a Portugal, contested between Guarda and Viseu, at a distance of 169.1 km, with a time of 3.55.11 hours (average 43 km/h).

The sprint was reached, after the peloton canceled the escape of seven cyclists at the entrance to Vise. Tavira reconfigured the cyclist’s entry straight into the house, which had none but the opposition of American Scott McGill.

In the general classification there are no changes in the first places, so Maurício Moreira (Glassdrive / Q8 / Anicolor) keeps the yellow jersey.

“This was one of the scheduled stages for me and the team, it was one of the goals. Even for me, with access so close to Mortagua. It’s like I spent the day sitting on the couch… I didn’t sweat much when I broke down. Before it was flagged for me, it was for the team. With Bruno Silva implicated in the hack, we knew how to defend ourselves. With the escape discovered, follow the plan outlined by Gustavo Veloso. João Matias said at the end of the stage for the RTP microphones.

Cyclists are entitled to a day off before returning to the road this Wednesday, with the fifth stage taking place between Milhada and Miranda de Corvo, a distance of 165.7 km.

Fourth stage classification:

Joao Matthias I (TAV), 3.55.11 hours;

Scott McGill II (WGC), same time;

3rd Andoni López (CJR), Mt;

4 Alexandre Molinar (BBH), Mt;

Overall Rating:
