France Football magazine announced, Friday, that it will change the criteria for awarding the Ballon d’Or, that is, the time at which it is evaluated. The latter’s options came into question, especially when Lionel Messi overtook Robert Lewandowski – the Argentine even said his rival deserved it…
That is, the committee will evaluate the sports season and not the calendar year as it was so far. Collective earnings and prizes will also decline.
The magazine notes four changes: the season, more experts, fewer voters and an individual award – they will look at a player’s performance, no matter what awards he won with the team.
So, the next cup will hold the 2021/22 season, not what the player does in two different seasons. The Qatar World Cup will be launched and weighed in 2022/23.
The first lists that will be drawn up will not be prepared exclusively by the magazine’s editorial office, but specialists and previous winners will be used – in this case Luis Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo will be able to participate.
For the final vote, only the top 100 representatives in FIFA will be asked to cast their votes to make it more specialized.
Eusebio won the tournament in 1965, Luis Figo in 2000, and Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008, 2016 and 2017. Last year he joined the Dream Team.
