Baby stuff stores file for bankruptcy and leave hundreds of parents with nothing

BabyBlue, a baby goods company with a store in Braga, filed for bankruptcy in mid-February, leaving customers with nothing. A Facebook group of victims has already been set up, with about 700 people, to file a joint complaint in court.

In addition to the online store and on Avenida Barros e Soares, in Braga, BabyBlue also had physical stores in Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra. All closed. Phone contacts are not working, website and social media are down.

There are hundreds of parents who are left without money and without their things – mostly strollers – just weeks after their babies are born.

according to Economic Magazine, the company did not have many of the products it sold in stock. When customers wanted to place an order, they had to leave a down payment of 50% of the total amount. The rest will be paid when the products arrive at the store.

However, in the reported complaints, there are customers who have paid for the items 100%, and now, they have nothing left.

Babyblue – Comércio de Artigos Para Bebé e Criança, Unipessoal Lda filed for bankruptcy on February 19 in the Commercial Court of Vila Franca de Xira.

The share value is 300 thousand euros. Its creditors are Bankinter, Caixa Económica Montepio Geral, Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Lisgarante – Sociedade de Garantia Mútua, Dorel Portugal and BCP.

Babyblue was established in 2011 with a capital of five thousand euros, and its headquarters is in Santo Antonio dos Cavaleiros.

The “Lesajos Lojas BabyBlue” group, meanwhile, was created with the aim of “collecting the maximum number of customers (and suppliers) affected by Babyblue stores, and to move forward with a joint complaint, in the hope of achieving justice,” explains one of the officials.

There are many reports of clients “burning” hundreds of euros.

“We took the physical store in Braga for 325 euros to buy a Britax car seat. On January 9, my wife made the payment directly in the store and was informed that the chair in question would arrive in two weeks. After these two weeks, after several attempts to contact, the mobile phones were turned off. We went to the store Last weekend, to our surprise, there was and still is a piece of paper posted on the window saying that ‘the store is closed due to technical problems and will reopen in a few weeks’ (this is interesting, because the will not open). Today we faced this situation. Live like this Not enough! Families try to give the best for their children, and make financial efforts for these men to steal from us without a shred of shame,” one injured party shared.

Another victim says that on January 9 she also bought a baby chair worth €118 from a physical store in Braga, after being told it “took about two weeks” to receive it.

“Because we trusted the store, we paid in full. On January 30, my partner called the store to inquire about the status of the order, and was told that the supplier had several delays due to lack of materials, which could take two months. Yesterday we stopped by the store and it was closed. In addition, they were injured. Without the chair and without the money, the suppliers/brands are also given a bad image, claiming that it is their fault,” criticizes the injured customer.
