Asus continues to invest heavily in research and development in order to stand out as much as possible from the founders’ reference graphics card models to deliver increasingly successful custom versions.
This now translates into a graphics card presentation with the originality of direct integration of the M.2 port where the SSD can be installed. This system takes advantage of a specific situation: all graphics cards are forced to adopt the PCI Express x16 connector even when using only x8.
For entry-level or mid-level graphics cards, like the RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti for example, only half of the PCIe lines are used. So the idea is to exploit the eight available lines, making NVMe SSD more user friendly.
ASUS believes NVMe SSDs will be easier to handle if they are installed directly on the graphics cards, as well as provide them with better ventilation. For this purpose, the brand has installed an M.2 port on the RTX 4060 Ti to exploit the 8 available PCI lanes: the installed Gen 4 SSD is more easily accessible and cools better (-10 ° C compared to the one installed on the motherboard). As for speeds, they remain unchanged with peaks between 6.9 and 6.8 GB/s in reads.

This option could be installed in commercial models in the future, and it remains to be seen if this will be done at no additional cost or if the final bill will be affected.
