Smartphones are an integral part of our daily lives, present in our lives almost every hour of the day. In addition to facilitating communication and access to information, these devices emit electromagnetic radiation, the effect of which on the human body is measured by the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR).
SAR is an important indicator for assessing the amount of radiation absorbed by the body when using a mobile phone. Recently, the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection conducted a study on this topic, the results of which were published by the Polish technology portal Komputerswiat. This study identified 20 smartphone models with the highest SAR values:
Motorola Edge 30 Pro
Xiaomi 13 Pro
OnePlus 11 Pro
IQ 11 Pro
ZTE Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro Plus
Vivo X90 Pro+
Meizu 20 Pro
Redmi K60 Pro
For those looking for X5 Pro
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
Motorola Edge 30
OnePlus 11
IQ9 Pro
ZTE Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro
Vivo X80 Pro+
Mezzo 20
Redmi K60 Gaming Edition
For those looking for X5
Samsung Galaxy S23+
Motorola Edge 30 Lite
Among these models, there are some of the most popular brands in Portugal and Spain, such as Samsung, Xiaomi, Apple, OPPO and Realme, according to data from the newspaper Expansión.
Although the list highlights smartphones with the highest SAR values, Komputerswiat points out that there are no official studies that prove that mobile phone use is harmful to health. However, concerns about long-term exposure to radiation from mobile devices are still a topic of debate.
EU Recommendations
The European Union has issued recommendations to mitigate the potential risks associated with prolonged use of mobile phones. Among these recommendations, the use of headphones for long calls stands out. This practice can reduce direct head exposure to radiation emitted by the device, thus reducing potential negative effects.
