The Israeli army confirmed that it carried out “targeted attacks” in the Lebanese capital, Beirut. At least five are said to have been killed and eleven injured.
Saudi media reported a short while ago that three attacks struck the southern suburb of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
The attacks from Israel occurred shortly after midnight local time.
From the hotel where VG reporters are staying in Beirut, ambulance sirens can be heard. One of the attacks took place on the main road that runs from the airport in the city, a road that the VG team took an hour before their arrival in Beirut on Wednesday evening.
It was said that the second attack occurred in the Al-Bashoura neighborhood in the center of the city. Videos and images from social media show what may be a block that was hit by one of the attacks, but this has not yet been publicly confirmed.
The Dahiya area, which was also subjected to Israeli attacks on Wednesday evening, is the same area that was bombed four days ago in a large-scale attack launched by the Israeli army.
The goal of that attack was to kill Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, which Israel succeeded in achieving.
In that attack, fifteen missiles reportedly hit a residential neighborhood at the same time. The extent of the night attack is not yet known.
Dahiya is an area in Beirut that includes a large percentage of Shiite Muslims. The Iranian-backed Hezbollah movement also stands strong here.
