The batch consists of very special versions of the M3 and M4 from different generations.
Every two years, the Villa Erba auction is held by RM Sotheby’s, as part of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, on the shores of Lake Como, in Italy. In this year’s edition, which takes place in May, a group of five BMW M cars will be sold at auction, under the name “M Power Collection”.
Starting with the 1990 M3 Sport Evolution (E30), a limited edition homologation model of 600 units. It has a modified version of the naturally aspirated S14 four-cylinder S14B25 engine with 165 cc more displacement, with a 2.5 gross, delivering 238 hp (38 more than usual). It adds adjustable aerodynamic components and an improved cooling system. This, one of eight German-market examples painted bright red, he spent most of his time working for the Schmidt Motorsport Technik team.
Chronologically, there is the M3 CSL (E46) engine from 2003. In addition to being 100 kg lighter than the conventional model, thanks to carbon fiber elements, this naturally aspirated CLS engine delivers 360 hp (17 hp more. ). hp), a top speed of 280 km/h (another 30 km/h) and more track-oriented handling. The unit in question is shown painted in a silver gray metallic and has only had 2 owners so far.
The last M3 in the lineup is the GTS (E92) from 2010, and it’s the rarest of all the models up for auction, having a limited production run of 138 units. Despite the somewhat traditional appearance (except for the rear spoiler), this model has a competition-derived 4.4 engine (instead of the V8 4.0 S65B40) that delivers 444 hp (plus 24 hp), improved aerodynamics and adjustable suspension. Inside, the highlight is Recaro bucket seats, six-point seat belts, and the absence of rear seats. This model is shown drawn in Fire Orange, where it only had two owners. Comes with several M accessories and a bottle of champagne.
This is followed by the M4 GTS (F82) from 2016, which, in addition to the modified body, has an updated version of the six-cylinder S55 engine, using a water-cooled system, up to 500 hp (50 more hp). To reduce weight, there’s a carbon fiber hood, titanium exhaust, and the rear seats have been removed, replacing them with a roll cage. This specimen appears painted a frozen dark gray and has only one owner.
Finally, rounding out that lineup is the M4 CSL (G82) engine from 2023. It’s a model with 540 hp (plus 30 hp) deducted from the S58B30’s 3.0 twin-turbo inline-six. In addition, it was painted in Brooklyn Gray, has specific bodywork details and has undergone weight reduction, due to the use of various carbon fiber and titanium exhaust components, as well as the removal of soundproofing elements. Limited to one thousand units.
In addition to the cars, each car comes with various accessories and memorabilia.
