Palmeiras qualified, this morning, for the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores, after beating Sao Paulo at home, 3-0 in the second leg of the quarter-finals.

After a 1-1 draw with Morumbi in the first leg, the defending champion coached by Abel Ferreira was even more assertive this time, reaching supremacy after 11 minutes, via Rafael Vega. Dudu scored the second goal at 67 and Patrick de Paula closed the scoring at 78.

On the Sao Paulo side, there is also a note for Vitor Bueno to be sent off just six minutes after entering the stadium, for talking about Gustavo Gomez.

Almairas has never defeated Sao Paulo in the Libertadores in new matches, having been eliminated from the round of 16 in 1994, 2005 and 2006. This was also Abel Ferreira’s first victory over Hernán Crespo: so far there have been two defeats and three draws.

In the semi-finals, Palmeiras will meet Atletico Mineiro or River Plate: the miners play at home with an advantage of 1-0.
