take the vaccine

Africa is the continent where little is vaccinated. Only 2% were fully vaccinated. This means that few people are protected from serious illness and death.

Africa just had its worst pandemic week ever. The worst is yet to come, as the fast-growing third wave continues to gain momentum and consolidate new footing, Machidiso Moeti, Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO), said Thursday.

In the past week, the number of hospitalizations increased by 40 percent on the continent, according to CNBC.

Alarm bells must be sounded

The worst increases in infections were in Uganda, Congo, Namibia, Zambia, Rwanda and Tunisia, according to the African infection control agency ACDC.

– Alarm bells should ring. Based on the atrocities we’ve seen in India, this should be cause for concern and action, says Health Director Tom Kenyon of the HOPE Project and former director of the US Infection Control Agency.

Kenyon says Africa is expected to receive millions of vaccine doses in August, but that is far from enough.

The World Health Organization is asking countries to prepare for vaccinations.
