With Di Maria's magic, Benfica beat Santa Clara 3-0 on Wednesday and qualified for the semi-finals of the Portuguese League Cup. The Argentine, who came on in the second half, opened the scoring with a stunning volley. After that, Pavlidis scored two goals for Encarnados at Estádio da Luz.

The Eagles had their first big chance very early in the game. Three minutes later, Besti shot a dangerous header, but it stopped at the goalkeeper. On the other hand, Santa Clara succeeded in creating chances, but without being scary. However, they had good defensive consistency to deny space from the home team.

In the second half, coach Bruno Lage felt the need for a change and pushed Di Maria, Coco and Pavlidis onto the field. Everything changed midway through the match, when Di Maria produced a magical moment. Pavlidis took the ball to the baseline and delivered a perfect cross to Di Maria, who curled in a perfect shot to put Benfica ahead with a stunning goal.

With Santa Clara exposed, Benfica took advantage. After a while, the Eagles increased their lead with two goals scored by the Greek Pavlidis. The striker ended the drought and scored again for Benfica. Argentine Di Maria also participated in the last goal.

Now, Benfica is looking for its eighth win in the Portuguese League Cup. The team's main matches will be against Sporting or Porto. This Thursday, the Dragons are still duking it out for the competition.
