The cause of death of Philadelphia Union player Holden Trent has not been revealed
North American soccer mourns the death of Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Holden Trent at the age of 25. The American League club announced the player's death, but did not reveal the cause of death, as Trent's family posted this week on Instagram that he was in the intensive care unit in a hospital.
“The Philadelphia Union is devastated by the passing of Holden Trent. Although he was a great player and a fierce competitor, he was, above all, a son, a brother, a fiancé and a devoted teammate who made those around him better. He embodied the true meaning of grit, dedication and perseverance, and he will be sorely missed,” the club wrote. In his statement: “We extend our deepest condolences to his family, fiancée and friends.”
Trent's family also released a statement after the guardian's death: “We want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Holden passed away this afternoon surrounded by his family and friends. We will update you on details of the funeral service soon. Our family is deeply moved to see and experience the love everyone has for Holden.”
The North American soccer league, MLS, also sent its condolences to Trent's family and friends: “Major League Soccer. Although he did not make his debut with Union's major league team, Trent was a starter on Penn State's secondary team.
Trent was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, played college football at West Virginia and High Point and was an All-Union selection. draft Major League Soccer, in 2023, with 23rd place option.
