Portugal's first Olympic ice pavilion will be built in Seixal

The Portuguese Winter Federation (FDI-Portugal) announced that the first Olympic ice pavilion will be built in Portugal.

The pavilion will be built in the municipality of Seixal, on land provided by the municipality on the southern bank of the Tagus River and the investment will be 10 million euros, with an expected construction period of three years.

The infrastructure, announced at the end of the 41st Seixalíada, will be prepared for various winter sports – ice hockey, curling, speed skating (short track), figure skating – and can host several international competitions.

The pavilion will be built next to A2, will have a capacity of 1,000 seats, and will be equipped with several features: in addition to the sports areas, it will contain a sports shop, a restaurant area, a gym and a medical clinic.

“The Winter Sports Pavilion is a strategic tool for the education and training of our athletes, directly contributing to the development of our national teams and raising the competitive level of winter sports in Portugal, and at the same time allowing our country to make it an attractive place and destination for training, tournaments and international competitions. 15 years ago, many doubted the construction of the Sangalhos Velodrome Today, it is clear that Gold and Silver in Paris would have been impossible without this investment. Seixal has proven to be a natural choice. Due to the support shown by the City Council throughout this process, it has become clear that the municipality is committed to being part of this important moment for the growth of winter sports in Portugal This will also be very relevant to the development of sports and the social intervention work that the Federation intends to do with society, especially with the local associations and communities in the municipality, said Pedro Flavio, President of the Foreign Direct Investment Organization of Portugal, quoted by the press.
