Toyota has always invested more in electric vehicles that produce energy on board Fuel cells Hydrogen (H2), compared to solutions that store energy in batteries. Therefore, it is not surprising that the Japanese giant's latest invention is specifically related to hydrogen. One of the advantages of hydrogen fuel cells relates to a faster hydrogen supply compared to battery charging, and the Japanese manufacturer appears to have found a way to speed up hydrogen charging even further.

Fueling a vehicle with hydrogen is quick, as around 6kg of hydrogen can be charged in three to four minutes, ensuring a range of around 600km in an average vehicle. But charging points are very expensive, because in order to operate in ideal conditions, they must have a station next to them that produces hydrogen from the electrolysis of water and from energy generated from renewable sources. Furthermore, H2 is supplied at 700 bar, which is a very high pressure that helps explain this Costs exceeding one million euros for a small capacity plant (200 kg hydrogen/day), which is why this type of station is not widely found in Europe and does not exist in Portugal.

To mitigate this fact, Toyota has introduced its latest innovation for hydrogen recharging. It is a small, portable cartridge-shaped container in which hydrogen gas can be used to fuel a car Fuel celllike the Mirai, to feed a weekend home or cook on a stove developed by Toyota with the manufacturer Rimini, which specializes in this type of camping equipment. The Japanese manufacturer did not specify the amount of H2 stored in the container, nor the pressure in it, nor its temperature. However, the safety instructions on the container strongly advise against dropping it and, if this happens, not using it.
