According to Agence France-Presse, UNIFIL forces also claim that Israeli soldiers prevented them from entering a Lebanese village along the border.

Unifil holds the line

On Sunday afternoon, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked the United Nations to withdraw UNIFIL forces from combat zones in Lebanon.

– Move UNIFIL forces out of the way. It must be done now and immediately, Netanyahu says in a video, addressing UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who was recently designated as persona non grata — an undesirable person — in Israel.

Five UNIFIL soldiers were injured in southern Lebanon in recent days. The Israeli army claimed responsibility for four of the incidents that occurred on Thursday and Friday, but did not comment on the latest, which occurred on Saturday.

The Israeli army claims that Hezbollah fighters are stationed in UNIFIL positions, so Netanyahu asks them to withdraw from open areas where Israeli army and Hezbollah fighters are fighting each other.

UNIFIL forces made it clear that they would not resign from their positions, after a unanimous decision among the fifty countries participating in the force.
