The 100% electric Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S breaks a new autonomous driving record by covering a distance of 794 kilometers on a single charge – Executive Summary

The Swiss Volkswagen team, led by long-distance driving specialist Felix Egolf, achieved a historic achievement by covering a distance of 794 kilometers in the new all-electric ID.7 Pro S, using only one battery charge. The route was completed in 15 hours and 42 minutes, significantly exceeding the model's maximum WLTP range of 709 km.

The journey, which took place on public roads and under normal traffic conditions, began in the Zug urban area south of Zurich. The route included a variety of roads, such as highways and rural roads, reflecting daily life situations. Eight drivers took turns behind the wheel for two consecutive days, achieving an average consumption of 10.3 kWh/100 km, an impressive performance compared to the lowest WLTP value of 13.6 kWh/100 km. This consumption is equivalent to only 1.1 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers.

The remaining range at the end of the trip was only two kilometers, which indicates the efficiency of the car.

The model used was not the one with improved equipment for maximum independence. Despite the presence of features like the Convenience Package and the IQ.DRIVE Assistance Package, the ID.7 Pro S still delivers exceptional performance.

Felix Egolf, known as Hypermiler, had set previous records with the ID.3, exceeding theoretical distances in difficult conditions. Featuring a highly efficient electric motor and superior aerodynamics (0.23 coefficient), the ID.7 Pro S is designed to be economical on the road, with consumption between 16.2 and 13.6 kWh/100 km, depending on configuration.

The car also offers fast charging times, allowing you to regain a range of around 244km in just 10 minutes of charging. Additionally, the optional EV Route Planner helps drivers optimize their routes by considering battery charge and available charging stations.
