The floodwaters destroyed thousands of homes.

Over the weekend, parts of central Europe were hit by heavy rainfall. The Swiss Meteorological Institute said on Friday that the forecast maps were reminiscent of floods in central Europe in 2002, when about 80 people died.

In southern Poland, evacuations will take place on Saturday evening, the Polish newspaper wrote. WeborcaThe newspaper wrote that rivers overflowed their banks and destroyed homes.

– The situation is critical at the Minczygorze dam near the villages of Wieliczka and Strony Śląskie due to the rapid water supply. The water level has exceeded the critical level and water is flowing over the surface. Residents of the cities below are being evacuated.

The mayor of Stronie Ślínski, Dariusz Kromek, wrote on Facebook that the situation is difficult.

“This evening will be a big challenge for all of us,” he wrote. “The amount of water in the Byala Ladika and Morawa rivers is higher than it was during the 1997 flood, and it is still increasing.”

Local authorities have declared flood preparedness in 18 municipalities and regions in Poland, and flood warnings have been issued in 33 municipalities.

“We have a tough night ahead,” Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk writes on X.

He visited the town of Glocholaszi on Saturday evening.

Four of them lost their lives in Romania.

Tens of thousands of homes were without power on Saturday in the Czech Republic and Romania as a result of heavy rain, according to Reuters news agency.

In eastern Romania, 5,000 homes are said to have been destroyed. At least four people are said to have died in Galati County.

– Clearly, the priority is to save lives. “At this moment, we have all the logistics necessary to intervene quickly,” Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said when he visited the area on Saturday.

Large parts of the Czech Republic are underwater. In the city of Opava, they have begun evacuating thousands of people. The Czech newspaper reported that the hundred-year flood is approaching Aidence.

Flood warning at highest level

The highest flood warning level has been declared in 38 different areas. BBC.

In Prague, flood barriers have been installed, Walls Closed to the public and the zoo is closed.
