The Portuguese hotel groups Pestana and Vila Gali are among the 130 largest hotel groups in the world, according to The List, a North American hotel magazine, which ranks the largest hotels based on the number of operating rooms through the end of 2023.
When looking at the list, the first national name to appear is Madeiran Pestana Group, which is ranked 105th. The hotel group led by José Theotonio has 12,006 rooms and 108 hotels in 16 geographic areas. This is the first time they have appeared on this list in the international magazine.
Next on the list of the world's top 130 is Vila Galé, which is ranked 122nd. The hotel group, led by Jorge Rebelo de Almeida, has 9,429 rooms in 42 hotels. Compared to last year's figures, there was an increase of 934 rooms and five hotel establishments.
The world's largest hotel groups are Marriott International, which leads with 1.56 million rooms and 8,566 hotels, followed by China's Jin Jiang International with 1.34 million rooms and 13,250 hotels, and Hilton with 1.18 million rooms and 7,530 hotels.
