Good news for Portuguese tennis: Francisco Cabral joins Nuno Borges on singles schedule – Tennis

Francisco Cabral, Portugal’s number one in doubles, will have a fantastic experience competing at the singles table at the Olympic Games in Paris, France. The 27-year-old from Porto benefited from Alex de Minaur’s last-minute withdrawal and leads the singles alternates list, something special at the Olympic tournament because it only features tennis players who normally specialize in doubles. The International Tennis Federation will not confirm Cabral’s opponent until 11:30 a.m. in Paris, at which point Rafael Nadal will decide whether he will play in the Olympic singles tournament. If Nadal withdraws, Cabral and another alternate will enter the draw for a spot on the board. If Nadal plays, the Portuguese will take de Minaur’s spot directly and face Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round. Francisco Cabral will make his Olympic debut at the age of 27. Initially, the plan was to play only doubles, which will also be played today, at the end of the day.

Meanwhile, just minutes after our news, the International Tennis Federation confirmed that the Portuguese will replace De Minaur directly and face Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round. The encounter will take place on Court 7 at Roland Garros, at 1pm on the Portuguese mainland.
