Samsung recently launched the new Galaxy Z Fold6 model, which remains the brand’s top-of-the-line foldable device, but now this market segment has several competitors offering similar premium specs and features.
In this article, we put the new Galaxy Z Fold6 head-to-head with Google's Pixel Fold on three key points: design, display, and performance. Let's get into the details.
Design: They couldn't be more different.
At first glance, the difference between the two is obvious in length and width. When closed, the Galaxy Z Fold6 is 153.5mm tall while the Pixel Fold is 139.7mm tall. In the same position, the Google Fold is 79.5mm wide while the Galaxy Fold6 is 68.1mm wide.
In terms of thickness, they are equal, with the Google model measuring 5.6mm and the Samsung foldable model measuring 5.8mm. The Pixel Fold also weighs 283g while the Galaxy Fold6 weighs 239g.
More differences in certifications. Samsung's new foldable phone has an IP48 rating for water and dust resistance; Google's Pixel Fold is only water-resistant with an IPX8 certification.
Google's foldable phone also doesn't offer support for a digital pen, and one of the good features of the Galaxy Z Fold6 is precisely the support for the brand's S Pen, which is sold as an optional accessory.
Performance: This is the element that can break the tie.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor based on a 4nm process, while the Pixel Fold has Google's Tensor G2 based on a 5nm process.
The difference in manufacturing process already suggests that Samsung's foldable phone could offer faster performance, as well as being more energy efficient. This, of course, is talking about the specifications on paper.
In daily use of peripherals, users may feel that navigation on the Samsung Fold6 is smoother and the battery lasts longer hours during the day. If this data is confirmed by future user reports and all tests conducted globally, Google may introduce improvements in the next version of the Fold already (supposedly) with the Tensor G3.
On the other hand, while both models have 12GB of RAM, Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold6 has a variant with 1TB of internal storage. The Pixel Fold, in its most advanced version, has 512GB of internal storage.
The rooms are balanced, but there is a winner.
On paper, the triple rear cameras of the two foldables are balanced, though the Galaxy Z Fold6 has a slight edge. Let's move on to the specs.
The Google Pixel Fold has a 48MP primary sensor with optical image stabilization. The Galaxy Z Fold6 has a 50MP primary sensor and the same optical image stabilization.
The Google Fold's ultra-wide sensor has a resolution of 10.8 megapixels while the Samsung foldable sensor has a resolution of 12 megapixels.
Finally, both have a telephoto sensor; Google's has 10.8MP, while Samsung's has 10MP, but has more features. They are equipped with optical image stabilization and 3x optical zoom.
As the newest on the market, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 has superior specs. But it's worth noting that later this year, Google may launch a second version of its foldable smartphone, which will come with improvements that will likely bring it closer to its South Korean competitor.
