Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) has withdrawn from the Tour de France after crashing on the final stage on Thursday.
The Slovenian, one of the favourites to win the yellow jersey, fell about 12 kilometres from the finish line, suffered apparent injuries to his right shoulder and lost 02.27 minutes to the leader, compatriot Tadej Pogacar (UAE).
“Roglic was carefully examined by our medical team after yesterday’s stage and again this morning. The 34-year-old rider, who has already withdrawn from the Tour in 2021 and 2022 (he will not participate in 2023), “has been decided that he will not leave today to focus on the next objectives,” the team announced. This is therefore the third withdrawal in a row.

Tadej Pogacar (UAE) maintains the stage lead, 1:06mins ahead of Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) and 1:14mins clear of Jonas Vingegaard (Visma). João Almeida, who benefited from Roglic’s fall by moving up one place to fourth, remains at 4:20mins, with Carlos Rodrigues (INEOS) 20secs behind the Portuguese. Roglic is sixth overall, 4:42mins off the yellow jersey.
The 13th stage of the Tour de France takes place on Friday, over 165.3 kilometres of flat terrain between Agen and Pau.
