Enerdeal, a renewable energy solutions provider that joined the EDP Group in 2023, has been selected by Goodyear to implement two ambitious solar projects at Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s facilities in Colmar Berg, Luxembourg.
The solar panels will be installed at the Goodyear Industrial and Research and Development complex, which includes several factories and facilities in Colmar Berg, Bessen and Dudelange. It includes a 5 MW solar system on the roof of the factory and a 2 MW carport system.
These projects are expected to generate approximately 6,500 megawatt hours of renewable electricity annually, which will be consumed at Goodyear facilities. The installation is estimated to avoid approximately 3,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, in line with the two companies’ commitment to decarbonization.
The agreement between EDP and Goodyear will last for 20 years and the decentralized solar power generation projects will be implemented in an “as-a-service” model. In this model, 100% of the investment, maintenance and operation are guaranteed by EDP, with the financial benefits of this installation shared between the two companies.
Distributed solar power generation is a strategic focus for EDP, accounting for around 50% of new solar capacity to be added globally in the coming years.
The acquisition of Enerdeal, which operates in Belgium and Luxembourg, strengthens EDP’s commitment to this sector in the Benelux countries. The EDP Group is committed to investing €2.5 billion by 2026 to install an additional 4 GW in solar projects for families and businesses, making a decisive contribution to the energy transition.
Goodyear, for its part, announced in 2021 a goal to use only renewable energy in its operations and manufacturing processes by 2040, with an intermediate goal of using only renewable electricity in its factories by 2030. The company has already invested in 100% renewable energy credits for its factories in Europe and Turkey and currently has solar power at 10 of its global facilities, totaling 30 megawatts. The new facility in Luxembourg will be its fifth in the EMEA region and its 11th globally.
