Storm Beryl approaches Texas

Beryl is expected to strengthen into a hurricane again when it reaches the Texas coast around Houston on Monday, according to US meteorologists.

Beryl was classified as a Category 5 hurricane as it made its way over the Caribbean, but has since been downgraded to a tropical storm.

The latest forecast calls for Beryl to upgrade to a Category 1 hurricane in its final phase over the ocean off the coast of Texas, and could upgrade to a Category 2 hurricane when the storm makes landfall on Monday.

The NHC forecast calls for Beryl to then turn northeast and move inland over eastern Texas and Arkansas later Monday and Tuesday.

The hurricane killed at least 11 people as it made its way through the Caribbean islands last week.
