US President Joe Biden, 81, has been under tremendous pressure since his disastrous performance in the CNN debate with Donald Trump, 78, last Thursday.

The 90-minute debate revealed that Biden is more physically and mentally affected by his age than previously thought.

Biden must convince his party, and not least the voters, that he is still capable of governing the most powerful country in the world.

Critical voices are calling on Biden to withdraw from his presidential candidacy and make way for new candidates.

Biden could withdraw from re-election in the fall. The Democratic Party could then choose a new nominee at its national convention in late August. The party would then have some time to prepare a new presidential candidate until the Nov. 5 presidential election.

But there is now speculation about whether Biden is capable of running the United States for the rest of his presidential term, which ends on January 20 next year.

Speculation suggests that Biden will not only withdraw from his presidential bid, but will actually step down as US president ahead of schedule.

– No scenario can be ruled out.

Hjalmar Melde is a professor of political science at the University of Western Norway. He does not rule out that Biden may choose to step down as president before the end of his term.

– The pressure on Biden to resign has now gained tremendous momentum, speed and intensity. The situation has gotten worse for Biden over the course of the week. Donors, party members, the media and voters are increasingly demanding that Biden give up the nomination. “I’m starting to doubt Biden’s ability to survive this,” Milde tells Nettavisen.

“We are now in an exceptional situation that is developing rapidly. No scenario can be ruled out. It is now quite realistic that Biden could also step down as president, although this is not the most likely outcome, at least not at the moment,” says Milde.

In this case, Kamala Harris will rise to the top and assume the position of US President and Commander-in-Chief of the US Armed Forces.

On Thursday, Biden held a crisis meeting with 20 of the party's governors. After the meeting, the governors came out and also announced their support for Biden.

But a number of financial donors are now threatening to withhold funding from the Democratic Party. Disney heiress Abigail Disney is one of those who say she will withhold funding until Biden withdraws from the presidential race.

Anthony Scaramucci was White House communications director during the Trump administration in 2017.

He speculates loudly with Katty Kay on the US podcast “Comfort is Politics” that Harris will take over as US president before the November presidential election.

It is believed that Biden is unlikely to complete his entire presidential term.

“Some people in the campaign (note: Biden’s campaign) have told me that these are going to be the most important few weeks in modern American history. And Scaramucci says that suggests we’re going to have a Harris President.” Podcast.
