Apple and Meta discuss partnership in artificial intelligence

Meta is analyzing the integration of its generative AI model into Apple's recently announced AI system on iPhones, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Sunday.

This move comes at a time when Apple plans to add technology from other artificial intelligence companies to its devices. The iPhone maker has developed its own smaller AI models, but announced it will use partners for more complex or specific tasks. According to Reuters, Apple should also discuss partnerships with other companies in different regions, such as China, where OpenAI's ChatGPT, powered by Microsoft, is blocked.

“We wanted to start with the best,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s software president, according to the Wall Street Journal, noting that ChatGPT “represents the best choice for our users today.” Federighi also stated that Apple wanted to integrate Google's Gemini.

The parent company of Facebook, and other companies working on developing generative artificial intelligence, hope to benefit from the wide distribution of Apple products.

In addition to Google and Meta, artificial intelligence companies Anthropic and Perplexity are also in discussions with Apple to bring generative AI to Apple Intelligence, the American newspaper explains.
