The Hollywood star is said to be upset by Joe Biden's criticism of the ICC.
The actor and director reportedly called the White House in May to defend a case his wife – human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, 46, was working on.
This is what the major American newspaper reported Washington Post.
George Clooney, 63, reportedly responded to President Joe Biden's criticism of the International Criminal Court's attempt to issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
The International Criminal Court wants two senior Israeli politicians to be convicted of alleged war crimes in the conflict with Hamas.
Amal Clooney, Special Counsel to the International Criminal Court, recommended issuing the arrest warrants.
The law that protects civilians in war was developed more than 100 years ago, and applies in every country in the world regardless of the causes of the conflict, she wrote in her recommendation, according to the newspaper.
– Amal Clooney said: – I support the historic step taken by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to achieve justice for the victims of atrocities in Israel and Palestine.
Biden: – We will always stand with Israel
For his part, the President of the United States condemned the court in a statement:
The request of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants against Israeli leaders is scandalous. Let me be clear: No matter what this attorney general may suggest, there is no parity — none — between Israel and Hamas, as Biden has stated.
The president continued: We will always stand by Israel against threats to the country's security.
Important for financial support
Oscar winner George Clooney is said to have called Steve Ricchetti, a Biden adviser, to express his concerns.
The phone call came just weeks before the star was scheduled to attend a June 15 event to raise money for Biden's campaign.
Clooney's reaction is said to have caused unrest among Biden's staff. Superstars are important attractions and can make a financial difference.
Former President Barack Obama, talk show host Jimmy Kimmel and actress Julia Roberts – also a close friend of George Clooney – will also attend the event.
The Washington Post wrote that Clooney, through his spokesman, did not want to comment on the matter.
The movie star and activist has long supported the Democratic Party.
In 2020, he donated more than $500,000 to Biden's campaign and hosted an event that raised $7 million in support of Biden.
– Characterized by anger and frustration
The Biden administration's continued support for Israel is driven by the fear of a major war. This was stated by Aaron David Miller, one of the most prominent US experts on Middle East affairs, in a recent interview with the VG website.
The US government's relationship with Israel is characterized by anger and frustration, but the will to impose costs on Israel is still lacking, Miller told VG.
He described the relationship between Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “severed.”
A crisis of trust arose between them. But equally, Biden and his government want to maintain an effective partnership with the Israeli government.
