US President Joe Biden believes that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may prolong the war in Gaza for political gain.
– There are every possible reason why people would reach this conclusion, Biden says in an interview with the American Time magazine.
The interview was conducted on May 28, just days before Biden himself announced an Israeli ceasefire proposal.
The US President seeks to end the war that has been going on for nearly eight months. In the interview, Biden also said he was unsure whether Israeli forces committed war crimes in Gaza.
He did not admit that Israel had used hunger as a weapon against the civilian population of Gaza, but he said the following:
-I think they engaged in inappropriate activities.
These statements do not impress the Israeli government.
– This is outside the diplomatic norms of any fair and impartial country, says David Mincer, government spokesman.
Opinion polls indicate that Israeli public opinion supports the war, but holds Netanyahu responsible for the security failure on October 7. According to opinion polls, the people will vote in favor of Netanyahu’s exit as prime minister.
