“It helps the body feel good and release a relaxing chemical, serotonin, which plays a role in the quality of your sleep,” explains Tammy Lakatos Shamis.

“When you consume it, it increases the neurotransmitter that sends messages through the nervous system and is useful when it is time to relax and sleep,” continues Lissy Lakatos. It is also responsible for the release of melatonin.
When should you eat sweet potatoes to feel its effects? They reveal that you should do this three hours before bed.
“If you're hungry near bedtime, eat a smaller portion, about half a small sweet potato, and more than an hour before bed,” Tammy Lakatos Shamis continues.
