Routine vaccinations in the pediatric calendar increased by more than 60% in the first half of 2024, in Amapa

The state government strengthened its work with municipalities to reach children in 16 municipalities. The comparison refers to the year 2023.

The Government of Amapa presented progress in routine childhood vaccination rates. Comparative data between 2023 and 2024 show an increase in vaccination coverage of more than 60% in the majority of vaccinations provided in the public health network in the first half of the year. Data are taken from the Health Surveillance and Supervision Service (SVS).

Among the vaccines most commonly used in children's routine is the BCG vaccine, which protects against severe forms of tuberculosis. In 2023, about 43% of children aged 0 to 4 years have been vaccinated, while 68% of the target population has been vaccinated this year.

The pentavalent vaccine, intended to prevent diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough, has reached 63% of children up to the first six months of life in 2024, and the coverage rate has reached 65%. For Polio, intended for polio in children up to 4 years, 11 months and 29 days of age, the target audience was reached by 64% with immunization last year. This year, the percentage reached 66%.

The data also shows an improvement in the rates of control of hepatitis B and rotavirus, as coverage reached 68% and 69% in 2024 before the end of the first semester.

“It is a very important result for the government's immunization program and for the people of Amapa. We have seen a decline in coverage over the past seven years. Now, with the strengthening of measures and monitoring carried out by the Government of Amapa, we are able to save and strengthen the protection of our children,” emphasized SVS Director, Cassio Petrca.

The idea is to achieve the coverage recommended by the Ministry of Health in all available vaccines to ensure the protection of the population, especially children.

“The data is still preliminary, which means we still have room to grow. The important message for all parents and guardians for this new year is to update their child’s vaccination record. “It is an act of protection for them and for everyone,” highlighted the State Vaccination Coordinator, Angelica Oliveira.

Other vaccines, such as yellow fever, MMR, Meningo C, and Covid-19, have shown increased coverage among children. The country currently offers 19 types of vaccinations for free.
