Even before the domestic violence allegation became known, José Castelo Branco was the hero of controversy due to aggressive behavior. On April 24, he got into a violent altercation in a restaurant in Bairro Alto, Lisbon. The 61-year-old socialite was seen in a video clip putting his hand on the neck of a man he was arguing with. After this incident, the hotel where Jose was staying, owned by a friend of the couple, asked him to leave. Castelo Branco and Betty had been staying at this hotel since they arrived in Portugal to attend the christening of the socialite's granddaughter.
With Betty already in the hospital, Castelo Branco had the support of her friend Marlos, who was married to former broadcaster Carlos Cruz. That's where it stays these days. Recall that the couple were unable to stay in their Sintra mansion after it was rented to Pedro Pico, a former Big Brother contestant. There is already controversy with lawyers in the mix.
José Castelo Branco currently does not have significant financial resources, not even to prepare his defense in this case. He expressed his innocence and on Friday night posted a photo in which he appeared with his wife at his granddaughter’s christening party. “As long as God is our earth, nothing can bring us down,” the posted message read.Diamond heiress Matta's husband also denied the domestic violence accusations poison. “Do you think I hit Betty? It’s all a lie,” he said during a phone call in which he claimed to have no knowledge of any accusation.Jose Castelo Branco was also surprised on Friday when he left the hospital. Again he avoided questions and claimed that he did not know that the authorities had gone to the hospital to listen to Betty. He always tried to get the idea across that there was no problem.
