Global smartphone shipments rose 12% in the first quarter of 2024

Global smartphone shipments in the first quarter totaled 300.4 million units, an increase of 11.6% compared to the same period in 2023, according to Omdia. This is the second consecutive quarter of year-on-year increase after the crisis that lasted from the second quarter of the year 21 to the third quarter of the year 23.

In the consulting company's assessment, the global smartphone market is witnessing stability after a period of turmoil.

Global smartphone shipment rankings for OEMs

Samsung is the leader, with 60.4 million units shipped to retailers, an increase of just 0.2% year-on-year, but 13.5% compared to Q4 2023. South Korea's market share is 20%.

Apple ranks second with a market share of 17% after shipping 50.7 million smartphones to retailers, which represents a decrease of 11.5% compared to the same period in 2023.

Xiaomi and Transsion are the highlights of the ranking. While the former recorded a 33.8% increase in retail sales, with a total of 40.8 million units sent to the market, the latter achieved a 111.5% growth in global shipments. In total, there were 27.5 million smartphones. Xiaomi ended the quarter with a market share of 14% and Transsion with 9%.

OPPO closed the ranking among the top five best-selling OEMs, with shipments of 25 million units, a decline of 5.7%. Its market share reached 8%.

The other five in the top ten in sales are: Vivo, Honor, Huawei, Motorola, and Realme. With the exception of Vivo, whose growth reached 7.5%, the other companies recorded at least a double-digit increase in retail shipments. Huawei stands out with three numbers (104.7%).
