Users of the social network X have expressed concerns about the power of the TikTok algorithm to know their profiles more than their mothers or close friends.

The platform, known for its customization capabilities, has been the subject of debates over data protection and third-party information collection, leading to bans in some parts of the West.

Any user can request their data from TikTok, a practice that raises questions about the extent of the platform’s knowledge of its users. Data analysis reveals that TikTok not only contains basic information provided during registration, but also records each user's login, devices used, browsing history, and interactions on the platform.

Data collection goes beyond what is visible to users, including information about videos watched, favorite effects, favorite songs, purchases on the platform, and privacy settings. The Company uses this information to tailor content and ads to each user's interests, as well as to improve its advertising services.

Experts consulted by “El País” revealed that TikTok collects a large amount of data, raising concerns about privacy and security. The platform faces criticism for its privacy policy and intrusive device permissions. However, users have options to manage their privacy settings and limit the syncing of contacts and personal information.
