The National School of Statistical Sciences (ENCE) of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) is open for registration until May 5 for the additional course Introduction to data scienceClass of 2024. The free course is aimed at those looking to understand the basics of data science and its real-world application.
Interested parties should log in to the site https://ence.ibge.gov.br/index.php/nupesq/cdbdia, which provides other information about the course and provides the registration form, list of required documents and email address for registration. Accepted applications will be sent by May 16. 60 places are offered and a higher education degree is required.
With a workload of 45 hours, the course will begin on May 21 and last seven weeks. It includes synchronous remote activities, such as lessons and debates, on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 10 am to 12 pm, and asynchronous activities, reading and research.

- Data Science Basics – Importance and Definition
- Basic tools and languages – basic data processing
- Simple data collection and cleaning
- Exploratory analysis and data visualization
- Use visualization tools to interpret data
- Introduction to statistics
- Basic concepts and practical application
Learning paths
The Introduction to Data Science course is part of the learning path Data Science, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (CBDIA), an ENCE/IBGE project that will offer other courses within this topic. The next three topics should address big data and public statistics, artificial intelligence for public policy, and confidentiality of information. The school is developing other tracks with a similar format and will be launched soon.
