A documentary film depicting women's participation in science will be screened at a UNESCO event

The documentary “Women in Conservation” will be screened at the UNESCO Ocean Decade Conference, in Barcelona, ​​Spain, in a special section focusing on the theme of the event. The production, directed by Paulina Chamorro and João Marcos Rosa, will be screened today (8), in the first session of the conference's Film Day, between 12pm and 2pm local time. Sessions will be held at the Filmoteca de Catalunya, with free admission via Spare. Mulheres na Conservação is the result of a multi-platform initiative, which also contains reports, web series and podcasts available on ((o)) echo.

The conference will be held from April 10 to 12, but the cultural events associated with it began today (5) and will continue until next Sunday (14). After the screening, the directors will participate in a dialogue about the film and its main topic, which is the presence of women in science. Two other Brazilian productions will be shown in the same session – Silvio Rocha's Rota Polar, and Helena Alba's Vozes do Mar, as well as Catalan Ciencia Congresses.

This event comes within the framework of the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), which was launched by the United Nations to raise awareness among the population about the conservation and sustainability of the seas. At the Ocean Decade, experts in the field will discuss the key achievements of this decade, future priorities and other pressing issues, such as climate change, food security, sustainable management of biodiversity, the ocean economy, natural disasters and pollution risks.
