Sometimes it is! Inadvertently, situations are discovered that can cause serious problems, in this case on a global scale. Anders Freund, a Microsoft engineer, was the one who discovered the backdoor in the XZ library. Satya Nadella I already congratulated you.

A backdoor consists of exploiting a security vulnerability that allows unauthorized access to the operating system.
Recently a backdoor was discovered in the xz library for Linux.  As mentioned here, the backdoor was discovered, and Anders Freund dedicated himself to investigating the reason behind the poor latency of SSH connections.

It is not known who implemented this backdoor, but the fact is that this flaw exposed the services that had this program.  According to the New York Times, the plan was so complex that some researchers are convinced that it could only be carried out by a country with many skills in carrying out cyber attacks, such as Russia or China.
