Rafael Carrion headed the Andalusian club from 1997 to 2000
Former Sevilla president, Rafael Carrion Moreno, died on Friday, at the age of 81, after several days in Quirónsalud Infanta Luisa Hospital, in Seville. The club left a message of condolence on social media and on the official website:
“Sevilla FC regrets to announce the death of its former president, Rafael Carrion Moreno. Rafael’s son Carrion Romero, advisor to the club for many years, before becoming president was also a member of the club’s governing bodies. Finally, on May 15, 1997, he was appointed president of the club during a very difficult period, both financially and sportingly. During his tenure, the club achieved promotion to the first division against Villarreal, although he spent only one year in the first division, which due to the poor performance of the team would end up returning to the silver division, causing his dismissal and the arrival of Roberto Alles to the presidency. Rafael Carrion has left his position, although he continues to be one of the club’s largest shareholders. The fact is that many of his children obtained their degrees while sitting on the board of directors. Currently, sons Fernando, second vice president, and Jesus, as well as Gabriel Ramos, represent the actions of the Carrón family. Sevilla FC would like to be with Rafael Carrón’s family and friends at this difficult time, to offer its deepest condolences.
