Apple Watch fall detection helped pedestrians call for help after a serious fall

Yes, the technology we use every day, such as a smart watch, often helps people in serious accidents. It is a gain for society. That’s why it’s news. A recent example shows how the Apple Watch’s fall detection feature helped save the life of a hiker after a very serious accident.

a The Apple Watch's fall detection feature came to a man's rescue From the US state of Georgia, according to information published by Fox5 Atlanta TV. Mike Menand was hiking in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area when his dogs spotted a wolf in the distance. The animals' reaction caused Menand to suffer a nearly fatal fall.

They got scared, threw me to the ground and dragged me out of the way.

Menand said, referring to what happened when his dogs saw the wolf. This activated the Apple Watch's fall detection feature, which began calling emergency services on your behalf.

I couldn't even reach the phone because my iPhone was in my pocket where I was lying down.

The American explained. The accident caused a broken leg, and a titanium rod was inserted during surgery.

Menand said he's not sure what would have happened if he hadn't been wearing an Apple Watch.

It is not known how long he would have been lying down. I realized I couldn't move, I couldn't get up. I was feeling a lot of pain.

Menand said.

In fact, just one month after Menand's fall, a woman fell while walking in the same park and did not survive.

When I read that, I thought it could be me. Because I was alone, with no one around, no one really knew where I was.

Tell the affected person.

Fall detection

If Apple Watch Series 4 or later detects a serious fall while you're wearing your watch, it will vibrate, sound an alarm, and display a warning.

You can choose to call emergency services or close the warning by pressing the Digital Crown, tap Close in the top-right corner, or tap I'm OK.

If your Apple Watch detects that you're moving, it will wait to respond to the warning and won't automatically call emergency services. If the watch detects that you have been motionless for about one minute, it will automatically place the call.

When the call ends, the watch sends a message to emergency contacts with your location, letting them know that the watch has detected a serious fall and that you have called emergency services. The watch obtains emergency contacts from your medical ID.
