The João Pessoa City Hall announced, on Friday afternoon (17), the total number of registrants who will participate in the Paraibano Challenges in Science and History, events that will be held within the 20th National Week of Science and Technology, on the 23rd, 24th and 25th in the Cultural Space José Linz do Rigo In Tampauzinho.
According to the Department of Science and Technology (Secitec), 707 students from 48 schools have registered, with a total of 102 teams. Challenge tests will be held on the 23rd and 24th from 9 am to 12 pm.
The challenges were created by the Paraiba Science Olympiad team, a project created by Daniel William and Giovanni Arthur, 18-year-olds who studied in public schools. The idea for the initiative came when they realized that there were many sports disputes between schools.
He added: There are usually indoor games and I always follow them a lot, especially futsal and volleyball. I have always seen those who won representing Paraíba on the national stage. So, we thought “why not have a team for the Paraiba Science Olympiad?” Why don’t we form a team that represents us at the national level? “And that’s when the idea came up,” Giovanni Arthur explained.
Daniel and Giovanni aim to make the Olympic Games more accessible to students through the special preparations provided by the team. “We created the Paraipana History Challenge and the Paraipana Science Challenge with the aim of engaging people who don’t like mathematics,” commented Daniel William.
According to them, since it was the first year of the competition, participation in the challenges was very good. “We have more than 700 people who signed up for the challenges we created this year. Two months ago, this idea was still on paper. So, we consider this a very large number,” explained Daniel William.
