The North team loses to Azerbaijan in Baku, and Robin Olsen feels “embarrassed”
Sweden goalkeeper Robin Olsen felt “embarrassed” after the team’s 3-0 defeat to Azerbaijan in a Euro 2026 qualifier. The player even said he felt sorry for the Swedish fans who went to Baku to watch the match.
“What happened was really shameful. I was upset, but this has to be resolved now. I spoke in the dressing room, but let’s leave it at that. We should be ashamed, I am ashamed. It really hurts to leave here with a result,” he said. Aston Villa player: “So, we deserve all the criticism we receive. I won’t read it, but I expect serious criticism. There is no player worthy of praise.”
Olsen felt sorry for the fans. “At the end of the match I was embarrassed, I walked away and took off my shirt as an excuse. What else could I do? They came here to see this nonsense. It was the least I could do.”
Sweden occupies third place in Group Six with 7 points and no longer has a chance to qualify. Austria (19) and Belgium (17) qualified.
