Children die when a pregnant woman is accidentally shot in Massachusetts

A pregnant woman lost her baby after being hit by a stray bullet while sitting on a bus in Holyoke, Massachusetts, police confirmed.

Police in Holyoke confirm that the woman was injured when the bus passed at the same time that shots were fired at a downtown intersection at 12:30 on Wednesday. The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and the child was rescued and attempted to be saved.

– The infant received life-saving medical treatment, but died in the tragic accident, according to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.

There is no further information about the woman’s condition. Police said they arrested three men on suspicion of being behind the shooting. Two of them are also being treated for gunshot wounds. State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said the shooting began during a quarrel between people in the street.

Holyoke has a population of about 38,000 and is located north of Springfield. The city’s mayor, Joshua A. Garcia offers his condolences to the family and says he is deeply disturbed by the senseless violence that continues to plague the city.

-I simply lost my patience. “I plan to use all available resources to keep this idiocy out of our city,” he said in a statement on Facebook.
