The meetings, which will be held on Monday, starting at 2 p.m., in the community hall, will be led by E-Multi Team Psychologist, Kayla Koi. The meetings follow the schedule of the Department of Health’s National Cancer Institute (INCA), and there are four weekly meetings, then the group becomes bi-monthly and then monthly. There is also a maintenance phase.
In the group, a series of actions are promoted, such as measuring blood pressure, handing out books to participants, in addition to carrying out health education activities about oral health. More than 50 people have already participated in the meetings in the other four editions. Groups are formed as requested by interested parties, the unit team offers the facility, a waiting list is created and the group is assembled.
Psychologist Kyla Koy explained the group’s purpose. He explained, “The smoking group is a form of support that the system provides to all people who are looking for an opportunity to quit smoking without any ambiguity.”
According to the unit’s supervisor, Alison Israel Rodriguez, the group is a humanitarian and functional strategy to help people who have found encouragement in smoking, and change this perspective towards greater care for their health. “Quitting addiction is not easy, but it is good to know that you are not alone,” he said. “Having a support network can be very successful in achieving this goal and being able to rely on trained and engaged professionals facilitates this process.”
