Neemias Koeta has officially signed with the Boston Celtics on Tuesday, with the NBA team revealing the Portuguese international center has signed a two-way contract, without providing further details.
“The Boston Celtics announced today that the team has signed Neemias Koita to a two-way contract. Due to team policy, the terms of the agreement are not being disclosed,” Boston’s official website reads.
The Portuguese international, who was released by the Sacramento Kings on September 13 after two seasons, will be able to play for either the Boston Celtics or the minor-league Maine Celtics.
Neemias Koita had a two-way contract for the previous two seasons, allowing him to be used in games for the Sacramento Kings in the NBA, as well as in games for the secondary team Stockton Kings in the Development League. (G League).
In August of this year, the center signed a “record contract” with the Kings, but ended up releasing him, becoming a free agent (Free agent) Which allowed him to sign for any other team to continue his career as it happened now.
The 24-year-old forward was selected by the Sacramento Kings 39th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, becoming the first Portuguese player to play in the competition.
In his first two seasons in the NBA, Neemias Koeta started 20 games for Sacramento. This post was the most used by the Stockton Kings, with whom he played 43 games last season, averaging 17.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game.
His good performance in the Premier League earned the Portuguese player second place in the Most Valuable Player (MVP) voting in the regular phase of the competition, behind first baseman Carlik Jones.
