New medium speed cameras are not a ticket catch!

New medium speed cameras are not a ticket catch!

Much has been said about the arrival of the new medium speed cameras and the fact that they are a real fines chase. However, this turned out to be far from the truth. Rather, it is about blocking roads, not least because the search for fines is done in very different ways.

New medium speed cameras are not a ticket catch!

All road radars whether medium speed or not have the feature. All are duly marked.. That means we all know it’s there and don’t come home unless we want to, if we don’t notice a signal, or if Waze isn’t working properly. That is, we are always alert. In other words, far from the traditional ticket search that many people are used to.

Now, what could still be included somehow in this classification, are the hidden radars on certain roads where you can obviously drive faster since there are safety and visibility conditions for that. Then, without realizing it, the driver ends up receiving a fine at home that he couldn’t have counted on.

However, it is true that medium speed cameras require extra care. The operating system is simple. Ordinary speed cameras catch you by recording how fast you are going when you are overtaken. Medium speed does not. They have a starting radar, say at point A and a final radar at point B, a few kilometers ahead. Now, after checking the time it took to cover that distance, it is possible to see how fast she was going. That is, the thing about slowing down before reaching the radar stops having an effect.

That is, you have to be careful during the entire trip between radar one and radar two.

What are the new radar sites?

If you live in Lisbon, you have to be especially careful with the A9, or in other words, CREL. There will be one of the main points that need to be mastered. But there is more. You also have to be very careful about EN10. Same with EN6-7 and also with IC19.

In the case of Porto, the new radars will be applied to the A3.

In the case of Santarem we will have the radars on the A1. In Setubal, on EN10, EN378, EN4 and IC1.

In Evora they are on A6 and IP2, in Beja on IC1 and in Coimbra on A1 and EN109.

How to escape from the new radars

The good news is that Waze actually helps us not fall for the curve.

The change you need to make

Users must use the voice “Português (PT) Amália” or “Português (PT) Afonso” in the sound settings of the Waze app to hear the alert. This synthesized voice (TTS/text-to-speech) allows Waze users to hear alerts when approaching new medium speed cameras in Portugal. Of course, for this we also have road directions and street names.

So click on the hamburger menu icon on the left. Then choose the Settings option. Then click on the sound.

However, after speaking, be sure to choose PT Amália or PT Afonso.
